My Dell Latitude D800 notebook system, which runs Windows XP, seems to have difficulty expanding various applications' menu-bar menus in certain circumstances. For example, when installing XP security patches, I can't see any of the prompts to accept the patches I'm trying to install. To see the prompts, I have to hit the Tab key a few times. The problem happens in several different applications, including Microsoft Internet Explorer (IE). I've updated the video driver and installed the new video BIOS for my adapter, but those steps haven't made any difference. Do you have any other suggestions?
The D800 has a 15.4" screen with a native resolution of 1920 × 1200. To make the screen easier to read, Dell increases the default configuration's dpi setting to 120 percent of the normal size. Unfortunately, this setting can result in the inability to read certain sections of drop-down menus. To change the setting, open your screen properties, go to the Settings tab, then click Advanced. From there, go to the General tab and change the dpi setting to 96 percent. Keep in mind, however, that dropping the dpi setting to a lower percentage might cause the fonts on your screen to become too small to read.
